Why International Patients Choose Istanbul
Every year, thousands of men travel to Istanbul for penile implant surgery. Above all, the main reason is cost. In the US, this surgery typically runs $16,000 to $30,000. In Turkey, however, an all-inclusive package costs roughly $4,500 to $11,000, depending on the device brand and hospital tier.
That price gap does not come from lower quality. Instead, it reflects lower operating costs and a favorable currency exchange rate for foreign patients. In addition, Istanbul offers JCI-accredited hospitals, English-speaking patient coordinators, and short direct flight times from Europe, the Gulf, and North Africa. As a result, the city has become one of the busiest medical tourism hubs for this exact procedure.
Furthermore, our team coordinates the entire trip end to end. As a result, patients avoid the long scheduling delays common in public healthcare systems back home. Consequently, many men who would wait months for a specialist appointment locally can be in surgery within a few weeks of first contact.

Cost & Package Inclusions
Package pricing varies by implant brand, since a semi-rigid Coloplast device costs less than a premium three-piece inflatable like the AMS 700. Also, most clinics price Istanbul stays around 20% higher than smaller regional cities, mainly because of hospital accreditation and hotel quality.
| Region | Typical Cost | What's Included |
|---|---|---|
| United States | $16,000 to $30,000 | Surgery and implant only, in most cases |
| United Kingdom / EU | €15,000 to €25,000 | Surgery and implant only, in most cases |
| Istanbul, Turkey | $4,500 to $11,000 | Implant, surgery, hospital stay, hotel, transfers, medication |
Generally, a standard Istanbul package covers the prosthesis itself, surgical and anesthesia fees, and pre-operative testing. It also includes a one-night hospital stay, several nights in a hotel, airport-hotel-clinic transfers, and post-operative medication. Consequently, patients rarely face surprise costs once they arrive.
Before booking, always ask a clinic for a written, itemized quote. Otherwise, some low-cost advertised prices exclude the implant device itself, which then gets added as a separate charge on arrival.
Choosing a Penile Prosthesis Type
Two implant families are available, and the right choice depends on your anatomy, health, and personal preference. Inflatable devices use a pump and fluid reservoir to create a natural-feeling erection on demand. Semi-rigid, bendable rods, on the other hand, stay firm at all times but position downward for daily wear.
Generally, inflatable implants feel more natural and hide well when not in use, though they carry a slightly higher mechanical complexity. Semi-rigid rods, by contrast, are simpler and less likely to malfunction, which is why some older patients prefer them. Either way, Dr. Tas walks through both options during your consultation so you can decide with full information.

How Penile Prosthesis Surgery Works
First, once you are under general anesthesia, the surgical team sterilizes the treatment area. They also follow standard infection-prevention steps throughout. Then, the surgeon makes a small incision, usually at the base of the penis or in the scrotum.
Next, the surgeon gently prepares the two erectile chambers inside the penis, known as the corpora cavernosa. For inflatable models, he places the cylinders inside these chambers. He also positions the pump and fluid reservoir in the scrotum or lower abdomen. For semi-rigid models, instead, he inserts the bendable rods directly. Finally, he closes the incision and applies a light dressing.
The entire operation typically takes one to two hours. Afterward, you spend one night in the hospital under observation. Then, you move to the hotel for the remainder of your recovery.
Your 7-Day Trip, Day by Day
- Day 1, Arrival: Airport pickup, hotel check-in, and an in-person consultation with Dr. Tas.
- Day 2, Surgery: Pre-op testing in the morning, then the implant procedure under general anesthesia, followed by a one-night hospital stay.
- Days 3 to 4, Early Recovery: Discharge to the hotel, with rest and light movement to support circulation.
- Days 5 to 6, Continued Rest: Short walks and wound checks. By this point, most of the initial swelling begins settling.
- Day 7, Final Check and Departure: Dr. Tas removes dressings, confirms healing, and clears you to fly home.
Once you are home, full internal healing continues for several more weeks. Therefore, patients typically wait 4 to 6 weeks before resuming sexual activity, following their surgeon's guidance.
Some patients prefer to extend the hotel stay by a few extra days for additional comfort, particularly for long-haul flights. Either way, our coordinators adjust the itinerary to match your personal schedule and airline availability.
Who Is a Good Candidate for a Penile Prosthesis?
Dr. Tas generally recommends a penile prosthesis after other ED treatments, such as oral medication or injections, have not worked well. Beforehand, he reviews your full medical history. He also discusses realistic expectations, since the device restores mechanical erectile function rather than desire or sensation.
Men with diabetes, prior prostate surgery, or Peyronie's disease are common candidates. Similarly, men with vascular ED who no longer respond to oral medication often consider this option next. Many men also ask whether the device affects size; our guide on penile implant length loss covers what studies actually measure.
Before surgery, Dr. Tas also evaluates general health, since good candidates should be fit enough for a short general anesthesia procedure. Older patients weighing an implant alongside cosmetic options can also read our guide on penis enlargement over 50. Safety & Recovery
As with any surgery, risks include infection, mechanical wear over time, and reaction to anesthesia. However, published outcome data shows consistently high patient and partner satisfaction rates for implant surgery overall. In addition, choosing an accredited hospital and an experienced surgeon further reduces complication risk.
Recovery generally follows a predictable path. In week one, expect initial swelling and mild discomfort, managed with prescribed medication. Then, weeks two through four bring gradual comfort improvement and a return to most daily activities. Finally, around week six, most patients receive full clearance for intercourse, confirmed at a follow-up check.
For a day-by-day breakdown of catheter removal, device activation, and when swelling typically subsides, see our penile implant recovery timeline.Throughout this period, our team remains reachable by phone or messaging for any questions that come up after you return home. This ongoing support is one reason so many patients choose to travel for this procedure rather than treat it as a one-time transaction.
