How Penile Prosthesis Surgery Works
First, you go under general anesthesia. The team then sterilizes the area.
They also follow standard infection-prevention steps throughout. Then he makes a small incision, usually at the base or in the scrotum.
Next, he prepares the two erectile chambers, known as the corpora cavernosa. For inflatable models, he places the cylinders inside these chambers. He also positions the pump and fluid reservoir in the scrotum or lower abdomen.
For semi-rigid models, instead, he inserts the bendable rods directly. Finally, he closes the incision and applies a light dressing.
The entire operation typically takes one to two hours. Afterward, you spend one night in the hospital under observation. Then, you move to the hotel for the remainder of your recovery.
